The State Approved Nurse Aide Training (STNA) and Competency Evaluation program is a 75-hour course approved by the state of Ohio for students wishing to work in a long term care facility. STNA training and certification also are pre-requisite for individuals wishing to enroll in a nursing program (LPN AND RN)

The demand for qualified healthcare staff has increased so much within the past decade or so, that this profession provides many opportunities for challenging and rewarding employment. Benefits for STNA certification include study work at competitive rates. For example, hourly wages upon certification range form $10-$14.

Designed for individuals who would like to or enjoy working in a long-term care environment (i.e., nursing homes or similar), the STNA curriculum consists of 59 hours of classroom instructions and a mandatory 16-hour clinical practicum. The STNA program prepares students to do basic patient care (including feeding, bathing, changing linens, grooming, helping to move patients, answer call lights, record food and liquid intake, collect specimen (urine, stool, sputum), measure height and weight and assist the license staff with patient's care, record acute vital signs, and recognize changes in patients condition.

Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to take the state skill and written exam that will place successful candidate on the State Registry for Nursing Assistants.

A complete application form including signature in appropriate section.

The results of a physical examination, completed within the past 12 months. The exam must indicate that the nurse aide is capable of performing the required skills and is free of communicable disease.

The result of a “2-step” PPD Test (Tuberculin Skin Test) performed within the past 12 months or an annual update test with proof of an original 2-step. For those with a positive test you must have Chest X-ray with negative results.

Clinical Consent:
I have enrolled in the STNA Training course consisting of 59 hours of classroom instructions and a mandatory 16 hours of clinical at a long-term care facility. I understand that during clinical component of the program, I will be required to practice hands-on care of the resident. I further understand the importance of safety and infection control measures, which protest the resident and myself. I agree to follow all safety and infection control standards of the long-term care facility, including the safe length of my fingernail (1/8” beyond the tip of the finger). I have no physical restrictions, which would prevent me form doing physical hands on care.

Termination Policy:

1.    In addition to the conditions of the Attendance Policy, a student in the Nurse Aide program may be terminated for any of the following reasons:

Unsafe nursing care during clinical performances.

Non-compliance with Nurse Aide Training Program policies.

Exhibition of behavior that is inappropriate as outline under the code of conduct.
